The Education Ministry is preparing to provide Tabs to students and teachers of higher classes from September onwards. The objective is to teach certain selected lessons using the Tabs. An estimated 195,000 Tabs will be provided islandwide, while a pilot project for the teachers is currently under way.

“The Tabs will be useful in teaching subjects such as Science, Geography and Languages among others, in a practical and easy way,” said Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariywasam. Classrooms will have free WiFi facilities or, will be provided dongles to be used with the Tabs.

Accordingly, at least one e-Classroom will be set up in each school. A model e-Classroom will be set up at an exhibition at the National Youth Services Centre, Maharagama, held to coincide with the Prime Minister’s 40th anniversary in politics.
