Kamburupitiya MV came out on top when they emerged champions at the recently concluded L.V. Jayaweera Boxing tournament which was held at the Jayatilleke Boxing Stadium in Nawalapitiya. The pugilists from down South came out on top by winning three gold medals and a silver medal and following them was another school from the outstations Vidyananda College from the northern district in Jaffna who took to the sport of boxing recently, having won three gold medals while Vidyartha Kandy took the third slot securing two gold medals a silver and a bronze medal.

Meanwhile third placed Vidyartha had the honour of producing the best boxer in G.D.I. Hansaja while K. Sathsara of Royal Colombo was adjudged the best loser of the meet.

The L.V. Jayaweera boxing meet organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Boxing Association was open to novices between the age groups of 13 to 18 which saw the participation of 220 young pugilists from 45 schools. The winners in the respective weight categories will be eligible to participate in the forthcoming prestigious Stubbs Shield boxing meet.
