A trader lifts a 28-kg, giant pumpkin received from Jaffna which was sold for Rs.3160 at the Dambulla Economic Centre and expected to fetch a much higher price in the retail market. The prices of vegetables have soared due to short supply following recent drought conditions, a sharp contrast from the Western, Southern and Sabaragamuwa regions which have been affected by heavy rain.
