Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has directed officials to submit a comprehensive report on the procedure adopted for admission to GCE A/L classes.
The report is to include payments made for admissions and how marks were allocated at interviews currently under way, after the release of the GCE O/L results recently.
Under the current marking scheme, additional marks are also apportioned for excelling in extra curricular activities including Sports.

The Minister’s decision follows numerous complaints regarding such interviews and the amount of money collected by certain schools. Under existing regulations, for collection of money for school development activities, prior permission must be obtained from the Secretary of the Ministry of Education or, the Provincial Education Secretary.  The Ministry has called upon the public to lodge complaints via the hotline 1988, if money is being collected, contrary to existing circulars.
