Clean Bandit, the classical crossover band has topped the UK singles chart again. The song ‘Symphony’ has provided the hit with 19 year old Swedish singer Zara Larsson performing vocals. The hit is the trio’s third UK chart topping song and follows their previous chart toppers ‘Rather Be’ featuring Jess Glynne in 2014 and ‘Rockabye’ featuring Sean Paul and Anne-Marie from December 2016. ‘Symphony’ has thus ended the 14 week reign by Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape Of You’. ‘Symphony’ is co- penned by Jack Patterson, Ina Wroldsen, Steve McCutcheon and Ammar Malik. The song debuted on the chart at No: 6 and took six weeks to gradually make the run to the top. Clean Bandit comprises Grace Chatto, Jack Patterson and Luke Patterson. Meanwhile the song has given Zara Larsson the first opportunity to be at the top of the UK singles chart

Shawn Mendes dropped a new single called ‘There’s No Holding Me Back’ on 20th April. The song was the only new hit to debut on the UK top 10 this week at No: 7. The guitar laced track is taken from the deluxe version of his album ‘Illuminate’ which gives a dance flavour to the 18 year old Canadian’s repertoire. The song is Mendes’ third UK top 10 hit after ‘Stitches’ which was a No: 1 and ‘Treat You Better’ which peaked at No: 6. Mendes is currently touring the UK.

It looks like Sony Music has punished Dr. Luke the producer at the centre of a nasty legal dispute with singer Kesha. The label announced on 25th April the removal of Lukasz Gottwald (Luke’s actual name) as CEO of Kemosabe Records which is one of Sony’s sub labels. But there was no mention of the reason for Luke’s dismissal.

Ryan Tedder the leader of One Republic has admitted that he took a break from work last November as he felt he was on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Tedder who has written songs for Adele, Beyonce, Maroon 5, Taylor Swift, One Direction among many others had admitted on social media he had been away from family for 200 days of last year. One Republic released their album ‘Oh My My’ last October and were touring when Tedder took a break. The band has now released a new single called ‘No Vacancy’. Tedder has also said that they will release new music when it is humanly possible.

‘All Of Me’ hitmaker John Legend has been honoured for his work for social justice. The 38 year old singer received the first ever Salem Advocate for Social Justice on 2nd May at the Salem State University in Massachusetts in the US.

Pop singer Zayn Malik has suffered a foot injury. Malik was photographed in New York on 29th April using wheelchair.

Top rap artist Eminem has taken the ruling National Party of New Zealand to courts over the use of his hit song ‘Lose Yourself’ in the 2014 general elections when John Key was the party leader. Proceedings began in a Wellington court on 1st May. ‘Lose Yourself’ was featured on the soundtrack of Eminem’s film ‘8th Mile in 2002.
