Colombo FC take title in penalty shootout

Colombo FC emerged champions at City Football League Presidents’ Cup Tournament held in City Football Complex Colombo yesterday. The team won the Dialog Champions League 2016 tournament and became the champ in last March. Also they are the joint champions of the last edition of City Football League Presidents’ Cup Tournament.

They became the champions after beating Java Lane SC by 4-3 (penalty)and the score stood 1-1 at fulltime. In the semi-finals, Java Lane beat Moragasmulla SC by 2-0 and Colombo FC beat Renown SC by 2-1.
It was a tough fight at the final match and the match ended in a 1-1 draw. The first goal was kicked by Jude Naveen of Java Lane (8th min) and Jave Lane was leading at the first half as 1-0. In the 53rd min. of the second half Sarvan Johar of Colombo FC equaled the game by shooting another goal for Colombo FC.

The winning team was rewarded with Rs.150,000 while the runner-up team was rewarded with Rs.100,000. Dhammika Senarath of Java Lane SC won the award for the ‘Best goal keeper’ while Sarvan Johar of Colombo FC won the awards for the ‘Best player of the tournament’ and ‘Best goal scorer’. – SP
