Nalin Perera, a veteran with nearly three decades of experience in Sri Lanka’s telecom industry, has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Mobitel (Pvt) Ltd.

The company said that Mr. Perera started his career at Mobitel in 2001 as General Manager Marketing and progressed to the positions of Senior General Manager Marketing and Senior General Manager Contact Centre Operations respectively. He also held the position of Chief Marketing Officer and took over the responsibilities of Chief Operating Officer at Mobitel in 2015.

In an illustrious career his experience in the mobile telecom industry is synonymous with its history in Sri Lanka since it was introduced in 1989. He commenced his career in mobile telephony with Celltel in 1989. Having joined as a Market Development Executive at Celltel, he rose to become General Manager, Sales and Marketing, within a short period of time. He was seconded to Cambodia and Philippines during his tenure with the Millicom Group.

“Nalin led the introduction of the pre-paid concept to Sri Lanka and its entire supportive eco system which revolutionised the mobile industry and was the main contributor for the rapid growth in the sector in Sri Lanka. Subsequent to the launch of the pre-paid service, he also pioneered several revolutionary products and services such as value added services and enterprise business solutions,” the company said.
