Thomians in fighting win over Science

S. Thomas’ withstood a valiant fightback by Science College Ratmalana to win their Inter-School rugby game by 20 points (3 tries, conversion and one penalty) to 12 (2 tries and one conversion) at Longdon Place yesterday. At the breather the Thomians led 12-0.

In the 15th minute of play S. Thomas’ scored first through centre Mayon Jayawardena. Dion Dias converted and the Thomians led 7-0. The Thomians increased their lead through an unconverted try by Abed Cader. Science retaliated through a try by Hashan Madumawa. S. Thomas 12. Science 5. Dian Dias put over a penalty next enabling S. Thomas’ to lead 15-5.

The Thomians unleashed a terrific onslaught in the second half and only the do-or-die tackling by Science prevented them from scoring.

 

In the dying moments left winger Sahan Masanovita scored for S.Thomas’ to win the game at 20-12.

Dharmaraja beat D.S. Senanayake by 45 points (5 goals, 2  tries) to 12 (a goal and a try) in their match at the Bogambara Stadium.  The winners led 24-12 at half time.
