The National Stroke Walk to mark National Stroke Day will be held today (Sunday), February 26. The walk will start off at 7 a.m. from the Viharamaha Devi Park in Colombo 7.

The Stroke Walk is being organised by the National Stroke Association of Sri Lanka (NSASL), headed by its President and Consultant Neurologist Dr. M.T.M. Riffsy.
Stroke is the third leading cause of death and the leading cause of disability worldwide. It can affect 1 in 6 people during their lifetime.

The NSASL — with its motto of ‘Bringing light to darkness’ — has been actively involved in improving stroke care and stroke awareness in the country.
Its focus has been public educational programmes, training programmes for healthcare workers and stroke-carers, screening clinics and free medical camps.
