According to Colombo FC Manager A. Sampoo, their aim is to win the Dialog Champions League Super 8 Round on an unbeaten note, beating Renown SC, Navy SC and Blue Star SC.

“We have 3 foreign players in the team and the local players are in top form. If we win this time, it will be 2 in a row. According to the 2015 tournament, we have qualified for the AFC Championship. We have 2 two international fixtures, on January 31 in Sri Lanka and February 7 in Kolkota.

“As the team is in sizzling form, one can expect the team to win with ease,” said Sampoo.

At the end of 4 matches in the Dialog Champions League Super 8 Round, defending champs Colombo FC are unbeaten and top the Points Table with 10 points.  There are 7 Stages in the Super 8 Round and to date, each team has completed 4 Stages.

All teams have to play 3 matches to figure in the next Round which is from February 11-14. The next Stage will be on February 18,19 and 25, while the other match will be on March 4.

Of the 4 matches Colombo FC has played, they have won 3 and drawn 1. They beat Solid SC Anuradhapura 3-0, Air Force 2-1 and Army 2-1, while figuring in a 0-0 draw against New Youngs SC Wennappuwa.  Colombo FC has scored 7 goals with only 2 goals scored against them.

Second in the Points Table is Renown SC with 9 points from 3 wins and 1 loss of the 4 matches played. Blue Star Kalutara are unbeaten in Third place with 8 points from 2 wins and 2 draws from their 4 matches.  All three teams have to play one more match each and a close fight looms between these teams in the next stage.

The matches on February 11 and 12, which were to be played at the Durayappa Stadium in Jaffna, may  be reverted to Colombo.  The other remaining matches will be played on February 18, 19 and 25, 26, and will conclude the Super 8 Round.

Colombo FC won the Dialog Champions League and FA Cup in the last two editions. The tournament is conducted by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka.
