Praveen Bhanuka Abeysingha of Dharmaraja College Kandy was crowned as the U/17 boys singles champion at the junior National Badminton Championships 2016 concluded last week at the Army Indoor complex at Boyagane in Kurunegala. He beat Sewmina Gunathilake of Ananda College Colombo 10 in straight sets (21 -16, 21 – 19) in the final. Praveen partnered by Nadun Punchihewa secured 3rd place in the boys U/17 doubles event. Praveen was a member of the Sri Lanka schools U/17 team that toured Indonesia last month to compete in the Asian junior international Badminton championship 2016. The tournament was conducted by the Sri Lanka Badminton Association together with Sri Lanka Schools Badminton Association. Minister of sports Dayasiri Jayasekara was the chief guest at the awards ceremony.
