St. Benedict’s crushed Lumbini MV by an innings and 58 runs in the Under 19 inter-school cricket encounter concluded at Kotahena yesterday with the match being over just after the tea break.

The architect of St. Benedict’s win was right arm spinner Kaveesha Jayatilleke who ended with impressive figures of 5 for 23 to bundle out Lumbini MV. They were all out for 94 and 96 in their two innings.

De Mazenod managed to overhaul St Peter’s first inning score to gain a first inning win in the match played at Bambalapitiya. The late order batting of Mazenodians helped them make them make a score of 164 in reply to St. Peter’s score of 143.

Royal too had to be satisfied with a first inning win over St. Sebastian’s in the match played at Reid Avenue. Royal taking first lease on day one made a modest score of 227 and St. Sebastian’s resuming on their overnight score of 70 for 6 was able to muster a score of only 152.

Sajith Sameera and Murad Nazeer shared eight wickets between them helping Zahira make a fight back against Dharmaraja on day two in the match played at Maradana which helped them record a first inning win.

Dharmaraja in reply Zahira’s 204 resuming on their overnight score of 106 for 4 made 199.

Siri Piyaratana MMV Padukka coasted to a convincing ten wicket win over St Mary’s Chilaw in the match concluded at Padukka yesterday. In fact Siri Piyaratana MMV was in line to record an early outright when played ended on day one.

St. Mary’s came into game on day two in a bad position of 33 for 6 needing another 26 runs to avoid an innings defeat. They succeeded to achieve that making a score of 96 which left Siri Piyaratana MMV a simple run chase of 38 runs which they needed only six overs.

In the two matches that got underway yesterday saw Asoka MV taking first lease of the wicket making a formidable score of 289 and then having Henegama Central struggling on 21 for 6 at Koswatte while Henry Olcott MV has already taken a first inning lead over Ananda Sastralaya Matugama at Kolonnawa.
