The Department of Economics at the University of Colombo  will celebrate WTO Tourism Day- 2016 in Colombo from September 24- 28 together with Sri Lanka Tourism on the theme  “Tourism for All – Promoting Universal Accessibility”.

The main objective of the UN-WTO Tourism Day celebration organised by the Department of Economics, University of Colombo and its Tourism Study Programmes (Masters, Postgraduate, Executive and Diploma Programmes) is to create valuable contributions for Sri Lanka’s  tourism development with the participation of the key stakeholders of the industry.

The Department will hold  a Tourism Leaders’ Summit- 2016 (as  in 2015) to create a constructive dialogue among the key industry-stakeholders to design new innovative strategies  to take Sri Lanka by 2020 to  become one of the most sought after destinations in global tourism. Participation of international experts is expected to integrate with this industry dialogue through the proposed International Conference on “Integrating and Networking the Evidence-Based Research for Sustainable Tourism Development for making tourism benefits for all.

Researchers/academics/industry experts from different regions of the world are expected to participate in this international conference. The Tourism Day celebration will also be followed by a Walk in Colombo on “Rekindling Sri Lanka Tourism for All” in line with the UN-WTO Theme,  a poster competition among the Differently Abled Community on “Envisioning Tourism Through Unseen Visual”, and also a Quiz Competition for schoolchildren.
