Kaushalya Fernando’s latest stage play “Dututhena Allanu” will be staged on July 12 at the “Ediriweera Sarathchandra open air theatre (Wala)” at 7pm.

Dutu Thena Allanu, a satirical representation of a decadent, socio-political scenario is an adaptation of Opera Wonyosi by Nobel Prize-winning dramatist and poet Wole Soyinka.

‘Dutu Thena Allanu’ is Kaushalya Fernando’s third theatrical production at national level and it is presented by Somalatha Subasinghe Play House which is also known as the Lanka Children’s and Youth Theatre Foundation.

Music Direction of Dutu Thena Allanu is by Chinthaka Jayakody. Lighting design and choreography are by Chandana Aluthge. Costumes and stage props are by Thisara Imbulana.

The cast includes Dhanushka Dias, Shanaka Fernando, Thilakshini Ratnayake, Mayura Perera, Nilanka Dahanayake, Saviour Kanishka, Yashodha Rasanduni, Poojana Dandeniya, Dilum Buddhika, Kumudu Wickramathanthri, Chamara Gamaethige, Thilina Perera, Gayathri Ekanayake, Thiwanka Don Ranasinghe, Sameera Lakmal Wimalasiri, Duminda Sandaruwan and Hasarinda Kesara Liyanaarachchi. All actors and actresses are trained at Somalatha Subasinghe Play House.

Organised as a fund-raising event by the Alumni Association of the University of Peradeniya (AAUP), the funds will be used to provide an opportunity to the University Community to see one of this year’s notable drama productions.

In its attempts to foster the welfare of the University community, AAUP provides, among other things, financial support to needy students, conducts workshops and seminars and provides entertainment of a cultural nature. Staging of ‘Dutu Thena Allanu’ is organised with the supports of AAUP members – local and abroad.
