London Buddhist Vihara, the oldest Buddhist temple in the UK held a special blessings ceremony to mark Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birth anniversary last week. The ceremony was performed by the resident monks of the temple led by Ven. Bogoda Seelawimala Thera in the presence of the Royal Household staff of Buckingham Palace led by Master of the Queen’s Household, Vice Admiral Anthony Johnstone-Burt, CB, OBE, and a large number of British and Sri Lankan devotees.
The London Buddhist Vihara was opened by the Anagarika Dharmapala in 1926, the same year Queen Elizabeth II was born.

After the welcome address by head monk of the London Buddhist Vihara, Ven Bogoda Seelawimala, chanting of blessings was done according to four Buddhist traditions, Japanese, Chinese, Tibetan and Theravada.

The gathering at the London Buddhist Vihara with Chief Guest, Vice Admiral Anthony Johnstone-Burt, CB, OBE, Master of the Royal Household and other staff members of the Royal Household.
