Micro Cars Ltd together with Chinese Yutong Bus company, an international seller of luxury buses, is now offering modern bus servicing facilities at its newly opened state-of-the-art servicing facility at Wedamulla, Kelaniya.  The new bus servicing centre provides value-added service, high quality workmanship and modern technology transfer to the people of Sri Lanka, General Manager, Yutong Asia Pacific, Li Shuwei told the Business Times on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the bus servicing centre recently.

With advanced technology and equipments, the centre is the most modern one of its kind in Sri Lanka, he said adding that it will help improve the skills of Sri Lankan workmen and training of human resources.  The facility can accommodate 10 Yutong vehicles for service simultaneously.
The service station is equipped with modern facilities, including damaged vehicle repair and sheet metal spray workshop, engine overhaul workshop, air conditioner maintenance workshop, spare parts warehouse and customer lounge.

Offering world class facilities on par with those available in developed countries has been the vision of Dr. Lawrence Perera an automobile engineer by profession and Founder/Chairman of Micro Cars Ltd, company officials said.  It is his vision that drives the organisation to tie up with some of the finest vehicle brands in the world such as Yutong and also to launch state-of-the-art service facilities such as the one launched in the historical city of Kelaniya, they added.

Being the leading supplier of luxury buses to the tourism industry and the national transportation system, Micro Cars Ltd has recognised the need for an international standard servicing facility for luxury buses. The company has set up the bus servicing facility to achieve this objective, they pointed out.  Apart from the tourism industry, Micro Cars is also a major stakeholder in the national transportation system. Luxury buses sold by Micro Cars are predominantly used on highways thereby playing a part in the national economy through generating jobs and contributing towards the development of small and medium scale businesses.

Today Micro Cars remains the only national car manufacturer assembling a full range of vehicles, from compact cars, vans to luxury SUV’s, and buses. Around 48,000 Micro vehicles were sold last year and it was significant growth amidst state interventions including low interest rates and tax cuts imposed by the new government, they added.  Micro has further diversified into a group of companies with its subsidiaries Transmec Engineering (Sri Lanka’s biggest automobile after sales workshop),

Transmec International (Low floor buses, Prime Movers, Rent a Car Service, etc), Micro Construction (the construction arm) and Euro Sports Auto Lanka (franchisee of Lamborghini and many other luxury automobile brands). Micro has stepped into overseas markets by exporting vehicles to Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal.  The company has eight showrooms and 30 after sales service centres islandwide. The Micro Group now employs more than 1,000 workers.
