Trinity enjoyed their most outstanding success of the season when they inflicted a crushing innings and two runs win on Royal at Asgiriya yesterday. Trinity openers Nushan Weerasinghe (112) and Sanogeeth Shanmuganathan (73) set the tone for the innings with a rollicking 190 run stand for the first wicket. Having run up a massive 204 run lead by lunch, the Trinitians delivered the coup de grace through their spin duo of Duvindu Tillekeratne (6 for 55) and skipper Raveen Sayer (4 for 64). Sayer had a match bag of nine wickets.Naveen Vidanapathirana made a heroic 96 ball knock of 98 (4×16, 6x 5). He put on 117 for the second wicket with Pasindu Sooriyabandara (65). The others fell like nine pins.

St. Joseph’s fought back in the latter stages to deny a victory for Ananda in the Under 19 inter-school cricket encounter concluded at Darley Road yesterday.

Ananda was in a strong position when play stopped for lunch on day two having resumed their second innings from their overnight score of six for one and helped by useful knocks from Kamesh Nirmal 36, Sammu Ashan 31, Krishan Anjula 39 with the score on 127 for 6.

Ananda batted a major part of the second session and then declared their innings on 172 for 9. St Josephs set a target of 261 runs ended the day on 149 for 3.

DSS dominated proceedings against Dharmaraja in the drawn match which ended at DSS ground in Wijerama Mawatha yesterday. Dharmaraja was in when play stopped for lunch on the second day.

Dharmaraja in reply to the home sides’ score of 250 was struggling on 60 for 5 and resuming their innings on day two was able to add only another 22 runs being bundled out for 82.

Moratu MV helped by half tons from Shanuka Madushan and Mishan Madushka batting first made a formidable score of 315 against Royal Panadura who ended day one on 36 for 3 in the match played at Moratuwa.

Two quarter finals of the Singer Under 19 Division Two cricket tournament got underway today at Kurunegala and Ambalangoda. Sri Dharmaloka MV Kelaniya was in a strong position against P de S. Kularatne MV at Kurunegala while St Mary’s Kegalle took the upper hand against Sri Devananda MV Ambalangoda at Ambalangoda.
