Child dies when gate he was swinging on falls on him

A child of one year and nine months died when the iron gate he was swinging on gave way and he was crushed under it, a coroner’s court was told.

The child’s father, 36-year-old Sugath Sunimal, an assistant manager at a private company in Wattala told the inquiry that his son was playing on the gate at his brother’s house when the gate snapped off the railing and fell on his son.

The child, Disara Dewsath succumbed to his injuries at the National Hospital.

Mr Sunimal said the incident occurred on Wednesday when his child and five others were playing. The boy was first rushed to the Ragama Hospital and thereafter to the National Hospital.

National Hospital JMO Dr D.I.L. Ratnayake said death was caused by excessive bleeding following injuries to the head.
Additional City Coroner, Iresha Deshani Samaraweera held the inquiry.
