A strong and an experienced team of Men and Women Sri Lanka Table Tennis players will take wings shortly to India to participate in the 20th Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships 2015 scheduled to be held from December 16 to 21.

Ishara Madurangi women’s captain

Men’ team led by Rohan Sirisena, currently ranked No.3 had won the National TT championship in three occasions and was a medal winner at the South Asian Games earlier. Sirisena had represented Sri Lanka at the Lusofonia Games in 2014 and was a member of the team that won a bronze medal and had participated in Commonwealth Games and World Championships.

Sirisena will have the services of Nirmala Jayasinghe, Chameera Ginige and Prasad De Silva, all who have international experience will go flat out to emerge champions at the games which we have never won. Women’s team will be led by another player with loads of local and international exposure, Ishara Madurangi leading the national side since 2009 is ranked No. 1. She had won the National Table Tennis championship for seven years. Madurangi too have represented the country in Junior Asian Games, South Asian Games, Lusofonia Games, Commonwealth Games and World Championships.

The other members of the Women’s squad Erandi Warusavithana, Ruwani Kannangara and Hansini Piumila will combine with the skipper and make every effort to re-write the Sri Lankan TT history to clinch the South Asian Women’s crown for the first time. Like Madurangi every member of the Women’s team have a lot of international exposure and everyone have won the national championship at least once.

W.A. Buddhasiri, a former National player who had toured Nepal, Pakistan, Sweden, Germany representing Sri Lanka accompanies the team as coach while Dilmini Direcke, holder of Advanced Sports Management Course certificate conducted by IOC and NOCSL is a ITTF Level three coach and a former national player is the Manageress of the team.
