Issuing vehicle permits to state sector employees is the ‘worst’ thing along with changing the goal posts frequently for industry players, a top official says. “Pay the government sector well. (A Doctor Rs. 300,000 to 400,000 as salary) The ‘worst’ is to issue permits,” Ranjith Pandithage, Chairman Diesel and Motor Engineering (DIMO) PLC told the Business Times. He also emphasised that there should be a ‘clear policy’. “I keep telling all politicians that we don’t want any favours. All we want is a common playing field and not to change the goal posts,” he said, adding that rapid changes in the tariff pose a major challenge, as they render DIMO’s counter strategies ineffective within a shorter period of time.

“As such it is necessary that we come up with short term plans to counter tariff amendments as opposed to taking a long term view of the tariff policy.”He said what must be done is to not constantly change the duty structures, but bring them down to an affordable price.”All these issues (of traffic congestion) are created due to an absence of good public transport. Our train platforms shouldn’t be two feet, they should be at least half a Kilometer long to facilitate more passengers and there needs to be more trains for an example,” he said.He added that the (Asian) Region is developing and that growth opportunities are many

In line with this, Mr. Pandithage said that technology has been a key source of competitiveness with the collaboration of foreign principals at DIMO and that investing in technology will be an ongoing process. “The group will continue to upgrade its technology and equipment with a view to providing a higher standard of service and a unique value proposition to the customer. Our commitment to upgrade the standard of services is highly commended by our Principals. The use of latest technology and equipment is a key factor to attract new principals and product offerings.”the CA Sri Lanka Annual Report Awards 2015, DIMO won the overall Gold Award for the best annual report in the competition, as well as Gold awards for Integrated Reporting, Sustainability Reporting,

and for the sector Diversified Holding Companies (upto 5 subsidiaries). The Annual Report was also recognised for the Best Disclosure on Capital Management and with the Bronze award for Management Commentary. The strong performance from among a field of 144 strong competitor stands testament to DIMO’s long standing corporate commitment to transparency and accountability to its stakeholders. DIMO is the only Sri Lanka entity to have been a part of the International Integrated Reporting Committee’s pilot programme leading to the establishment of the Integrated Reporting Framework.
