The government indirectly increases the licence fee by imposing an additional emission levy. (Sunday Times BT- Motoring section of 6-12-2015)
The article further says “ the proposed levy of Rs. 5000/- should be paid to the respective D.S and not to the VET centre. “Does this mean that we have to pay for the emission test, revenue licence, Insurance and another Rs. 5000.- to obtain the licence? This is highway robbery.

The poor middle class people opt to purchase a small car- a Maruti- with an engine capacity of less than 800 cc as they are unable to purchase 1500-2000 cc vehicles. A person who buy a Maruti with a leasing of one million has to pay Rs. 20,000 full insurance Rs. 31,000, emission test Rs. 1,400, Revenue licence Rs. 2,200 and now another Rs.5,000. Total Rs.59,600. If the government wants to earn money then why not tax according to the engine capacity and why not levy a high tax on people who purchase more than two vehicles per family.. Hope that the “Yahapalana Govt.” will refrain from burdening the poor middle class people any further.
