Water talks

Hi! I’m water. You know 75% of Earth is covered by me. People cannot live without me. I have no colour or taste. Therefore I take
the shape of the container you use.
I come in three forms: Liquid, Gas, Solids. The water you take for your daily work has originated from either surface water (rivers, lakes or reservoirs) or ground water (wells). I’m not only helping for your daily needs, but help to produce
hydro-power useful for machines etc. Most people do not understand my importance. They put garbage, wash animals and do many more things to pollute me. Is this the gratitude I get from you for my help? Please try to save me.

My environment

My environment is Mother Nature. It’s a beautiful sight. Animals, birds, insects, butterflies come to our environment. Every morning and afternoon, we must water plants. Plants live because of water, air, space, sunlight and fertilizer. We need to protect our environment, because of oxygen we live. Trees give us shade.
So I love my environment very much. We have to protect our environment. Animals, human beings and plants benefit from the environment. So everyone, please try to protect and love the nature of the environment.

My netball friends
I have 10 best friends in school with whom I love playing netball. They are Shanali, Sethmi, Dushani, Oshadi, Sachitha, Achini, Sadisna, Ishara, Sawani and Sesara. We all play in the Under 15 team representing our school, Holy Family Convent, Kurunegala.
Netball is a fun and very competitive sport. So my team mates, my netball friends are all very interesting girls. I have been playing netball with them since I was nine years old.

Our school is considered the most popular school for netball in Sri Lanka. We have been winning the All-Island knock-out tournament for the last eight years consecutively. We are very proud of our school.
In school we do so many fun things outside netball. We play, we fight, we sing and once in a while we all get into trouble together for being mischievous.
I love my team mates so much though I call them friends, they are like my family.

Goodbye Sanga
Every second of life makes history. Another legend of Sri Lanka makes history in cricket. He is none other than Kumar Sangakkara, one of the greatest players in the world. He has tumbled plenty of records in Test Cricket history.

He was the first player to score four consecutive 150 plus scores in test matches and he is also the most successful number 3 batsman. Sanga and Mahela had made the highest partnership in Test Cricket. In that match Sanga scored 287 Vs. South Africa at the SSC. Sanga, you’ve been awesome to cricket.

Your cover drive is the best that I have seen in my cricket life. I do remember when you scored 319 Vs. Bangladesh. I just switched on the television after school; when I checked the score it was over 700. And the luck was I saw you playing the 300th run.
So this essay would not end if I write your whole career. We know that you won’t appear any more in international cricket. But your shots, the sound when the ball hits the bat will be in my mind and heart forever. We all love you Sanga. We will miss you a lot.
Legends retire, but class never retires.

My grandparents are Mrs. Padmini and
Mr. Wilson. My grandmother is 70 years old and my grandfather is 75 years old. My grandfather is dark and tall, my grandmother is short and fair. They still live together. My grandfather worked in CMC, Colombo and my grandmother was a housewife.
My grandmother feeds me every day. I love to eat when she feeds me. I hug my grandmother everyday before I sleep. She gets up early in the morning. She helps me when I dress. She combs my hair well.

My grandfather teaches me how to be a good child. He takes me on a ride by his three-wheeler.
They worship the Lord Buddha every day. They are lovely grandparents. I pay respect everyday. They used to say “May the Triple Gem bless you.”
I wish them to live a long life forever.

My favourite subject

My favourite subject is English. Learning the English language is important because it is an international language. A person who knows English well can communicate with foreigners easily. Thereby he can learn more about foreign countries.

Most books and magazines on different subjects are published in English. We can read them if we know English. So to read them we must learn English well. To step towards the modern world we need to learn a universal language. There is no other language better than the English language to be part of the modern world. To improve our English knowledge we all should have a desire to read a lot of books.

English makes people more educated. In future we might have to travel to foreign countries. If we know English well, it will be easier for us to get friendly with others and get their assistance. So I spend more time to read, write and converse with others in the English Language.

An unforgettable day

About four years ago, we went to Japan. In the evening we went to the Katunayake Airport. I saw many aeroplanes in the airport. Aeroplanes have a huge body, two large wings and a tail. The aeroplane is like a huge iron bird. I saw the aeroplane for the first time near me. After that we entered the aeroplane.
When we entered the aeroplane, an airhostess welcomed us. There were rows upon rows of seats. They were very comfortable. My seat was near the window. My parents sat next to me. Soon the aeroplane was on its wings and in the sky. First I was scared but after a few seconds I was happy. When I looked out of the window, the scenes were exciting.
The aircraft passed through the clouds.
I wanted to touch the clouds. They looked like cotton.
A few minutes later, I put on the TV in the aeroplane and watched a Dora cartoon. The airhostesses were busy serving the passengers. I enjoyed cold drinks and snacks. The lunch was also very tasty.
After that the airhostess gave me a small bag, colouring book, box of colour pencils, a storybook and two puppets.
After eight hours we landed at Tokyo airport. It was an unforgettable day in my life.
