Speeding bus runs over driver repairing lorry

A lorry driver attempting to repair his vehicle was run over and killed by a speeding bus, a coroner’s court heard this week.
The deceased identified as Wedage Nimal Shantha, 30, a father of two and a resident of Minuwangoda had been on duty on Thursday (3rd) when the accident took place. The court heard that after Mr. Shantha’s lorry broke down at Grandpass, Colombo he had attempted to repair it from underneath the vehicle.

While he was fixing the lorry from under, a bus had crashed into it from behind running over Mr. Shantha and killing him instantly.
Colombo City Coroner Ashrof Rumy ordered the Grandpass Police to produce the suspect before the Coroners Court on 12th next month.

J.M.O. Dr. Mrs. Joozari conducted the postmortem and reported the death as accidental and caused due to multiple injuries to the head, abdomen and chest of the deceased. (C. S)
