Laddie says final goodbye

View(s):

One of Sri Lankas best sports commentators Laddie Hettiarachchi, died on Thursday at the age of 76.Laddie, a man with a golden voice, was a veteran radio commentator with a wide and varied knowledge of many sports, while he specialised in Rugby Football.

Along with the equally popular Tommy Perera, Laddie also conducted several sports programmes for the country’s premier station the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation. One of these was the daily sports round-up which hundreds of thousands of fans listened to before the TV era.

Though Laddie’s voice has been stilled the echo will linger in the hearts of Sri Lankan sports enthusiasts. Laddie leaves behind his wife and three children. May the soul of this good, faithful and talented gentleman of sports, in the mercy of God rest in peace. – LR
