Making a paradigm shift in 68 years of Sri Lankan cinema history, the renowned young film director Vimukthi Jayasundara has made it to the ‘’International Competitive’’ section in the Locarno International Film Festival.

Even though there are nearly 3500 international film festivals per year going around the world due to the continuous expansion of the global cinema, there is only little number of fifteen (15) film festivals which is considered as Grade ‘A’ Competitive Feature Film Festivals.

The competition reaches very high levels in Grade ‘A’ rated international film festivals and it get intensified when it comes to final rounds of international competition section of those festivals. Therefore getting nominated to compete in international competitive section and winning an award in that section is regarded as prestigious achievement in global cinema context.

After this entry of ‘’Dark in the White Light’’ (Sulanga Gini Aran) in to international competition section in “Locarno” international film festival, Vimukthi Jayasundara wrote a new page in the history of Sri Lankan cinema, by becoming the first and only director to represent three (03) Grade ‘A’ film festivals in three (03) competitive sections by three (03) movies. Before this ‘’The Forsaken Land’’ (Sulanga Enu Pinisa) represented ‘’Un Certain Regard’ competitive section in 2005 “Cannes” festival and in 2009,’’Between Two Worlds’’ (Ahasin Vatei) movie represent ‘’International Competition of Feature Films’’ section in “Venice” international film festival.

‘’Dark in the White Light’’ (Sulanga Gini Aran) is starred by Mahendra Perera, Steve De Silva, Bandula Vithanage, Roshan Ravindra, Ruvin De Silva, Kaushalya Fernando, Suranga Ranavaka, Sulochana Weerasinghe and Thilakshini Rathnayake where cinematography is done by Channa Deshappriya with Dhanushka Gunathilake as the associate cinematographer. In addition to that, contributions are made by Saman Alvitigala as the editor, Joseph De Seram as the music director and Lal Harendranath as the Art Director
