A new production for ‘Kuweni’

One of the landmark plays in Sri Lankan theatre “Kuweni” produced by late Henry Jayasena will be staged as a new production at 8.15 a.m. and 10.30 a.m. on July 28 at the Air Conditioned New Town Hall Colombo 07.

Presented as a new production by Samudra Jeewani Karunananda, the play  has been hailed by critics as well as theatre-goers as a milestone production which introduced a new stylistic trend in theatre, base on the great Greek theatre traditions. Kuweni won almost all the awards in the stylized section of the National Drama Festival in 1963.

The original music of the play is by H. H. Bandra and the music in the new production is handled by Gayanath Nalaka Dahanayake while make-up is by Chaminda Lakmal and the lighting by the Upali Weerasinghe.

The New production is a joint effort by the University of Aesthetic studies and Nirmala Prakashana. The new production is organized by Jude Srimal.
