D.S. Senanayake College Under 15 cricketers are making steady progress in the ongoing Singer Inter Schools Under 15 cricket tournament. Fielding three teams A, B, and C playing in the second round presently in the Division 1 Group F, in Division II Group B and in Division III Group A these DSS young cricketers have shown their prowess and are on their way to the pre-quarter finals stage.

DSS ‘A’ team played seven matches in the first round and qualified for the second round by recording 4 wins, 2 losses and a no decision. Their four wins were against St. Peter’s A, Kalutara Vidyalaya, Asoka Vidyalaya and Gurukula Vidyalaya, Kelaniya. Muditha Lakshan being the star performer with a fine all-round performance scoring two half centuries (72 vs. Asoka Vidyalaya and 50 against Kalutara Vidyalaya and claimed over 18 wickets with three five wicket hauls (7/23 vs. St. Peter’s, 6/16 vs. Gurukula and 5/26 against Kalutara Vidyalaya). Tuwin Osanda, Teron Baskaran and Deemantha Kaushalya too contributed well with the bat.

Last week in the second round match against Polonnaruwa Royal College, DSS A amassed a massive 433 and so far they had played 3 matches winning two with one match to be played.

Playing five matches and winning three and losing one with one no-decision the DSS B cricketers qualified to play in the second round. They beat President’s College ‘B’, Wesley ‘B’ and De Mazonad ‘B’ and lost narrowly to Christ King College, Ja Ela.

Skipper Sonal Kulasekerage stroking a magnificent 100 against President’s College while Kulindu Ransika (68 against President’s College) and Missaka Nadun (48 n.o.against Christ King College) were the other main contributors. Deputy Skipper and Right arm leg-spinner Lahiru Samaranayake rattled the opponents batting line-ups with the best being 4 for 4 against Wesley and supported by Missaka Nadun, his best being 4/12 against President’s College made their way to the second round.

In the second round DSS ‘B’ winning all their four matches had a plain sail to the pre-quarter finals.

Ending at the top position in the preliminary round DSS ‘C’ too are making a steady way to the pre quarters.The DSS Under 15 cricket teams are under the wings of Anoj Fernando (Head Coach) and Kolitha Hapuarachchi (Asst. Coach)
