BLIND FAITH

There is this strange case of an official passing the verdict of a team that is to go to Hiroshima for a sports event without seeing any activity of the sportsmen and women. Fifteen girls and fifteen boys were originally picked for training and later the contingent was reduced to four girls and four boys. The parents of these children have complained to the authorities concerned about the lack of interest of the officials. One official has stated that the children are not up to the mark even without watching them at practice sessions! Yet, the real reason they sat – it is because one of the President’s favourite coaches could not train anyone to fit the bill.

STRANGE
AFFAIR

The secretary to a game similar to baseball is said to have an official in a key seat who cannot write in the Queen’s language. In order to cover this set back another official is working behind the scenes. There are two tours planned for this sport. Wonder how these officials will work when it comes to the crunch. How long will this strange affair last?

A DOUBTFUL QUESTION

A key competition in the game where the ball is dashed is to be held in Iran at the end of the month. The new people, at the governing body of this sport, have no clue as how to conduct the affairs of this sport. It is said that the team that is to take part in the event have been coached by newcomers. How will such a team fare at the Asian event that they are scheduled to participate.

QUARRELING TO GO

The talk in sports circles is about a world event that is to take place Down Under in August. Properly speaking the talk is centered on a training session that is to be held concurrently with the event. Seventeen ladies have applied to attend this course and some of them are far above the hill as well. Also it is learnt that some of these ladies are trying to go to the event through the companies that they are employed in order to see that they are sponsored by them. In short they are fighting, or quarreling to go for the event. The fact is when such an event is held in Sri Lanka, there are hardly any takers but mention a trip abroad – there are hoards to go for the event.

NO SEATS FOR VIPs

There was such a big crowd to witness the FA Cup final at the Sugathadasa Stadium last Sunday. The crowd was so great that those who had bought VIP tickets for the event at the Grandstand had no seats and were forced to witness the game standing! The reason for this was that there was a soccer game before the big event and those who had come to watch that game had decided to stay and watch the FA Cup final as well even though they had no right to do it. The officials concerned had not cleared them off the VIP box before the FA Cup and some of them were even clamouring to get into the Press Box!
