With the onset of the monsoon rains the threat of an outbreak of Dengue is on the rise.

Public Health Inspectors in Beruwela carried out inspections of private premises and state buildings.

Ironically, the largest breeding grounds for mosquitoes were discovered at none other than the premises of government institutions.

Out of the 3,625 properties inspected, 224 sites were given red notices, and five cases were serious enough for the residents to be brought to court.

The raids at Beruwela were carried out by the Institute of Health Sciences, the Navy, the Police Special Task Force, officials of the Beruwela Pradeshiya Sabha, the Central Environmental Authority and local police personnel.

R.J. Sinhabahu, PHI Administration at the Institute of Health Sciences, Gamini Samaratunge PHI Administration Beruwela, Anula Sirimanne Secretary of the Beruwela Pradeshiya Sabha, C.I. Manoj Perera Inspector of Police Environmental Protection Division and Dr. Sinha de Silva of the National Dengue Control Unit participated in the raids.
