Government will on Monday present a Bill in Parliament to amend the Immigrants and Emigrants Act, to include fingerprints in passports.
These amendments will empower the Department of Immigration and Emigration to “for the inclusion of fingerprints in the passport, of a person applying for or renewal of a passport.”

Under the new regulations, new passports or renewed passports will also include the fingerprint data. The information would be saved in a designated secure computer system and introduced in the new passport. The data obtained would be according to standards stipulated by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which specifies facial, fingerprint, and iris recognitions as standardized metrics to be used in biometric passport identification.
