106 National Schools need Principals; applications close on April 30

The Education Ministry is calling for applications for the post of Principals in 106 National Schools island-wide, on or before teh closing date April 30.

Those applying for Principal of a National School will be tested for Computer literacy and marks added to the final aggregate.

They will receive scores for their experience as school principals, deputy and vice principals- 40%, for postgraduate qualifications- 5%, research and awards- 10%, language and technology- 15%.

Applicants will have to sit for a 45-minute written exam in decision-making- 15%, at an interview to assess leadership qualities- 5%, and a 10-minute presentation on school development plans- 10%.

Among the basic qualifications required are Grade I, II and III in the Education Service or Grade I in Principal’s Service and be below 57 years of age.

Those presently facing disciplinary inquiries will not be called for interviews, while those disqualified by the Public Service Commission to be appointed as Principals to National Schools, cannot apply for the posts, said Education Secretary Upali Marasinghe.

Western Province- 9, Central Province- 15, Southern Province- 23, Northern Province- 16, Eastern Province- 10, North Western Province- 11, Uva Province- 12, Sabaragamuwa Province- 10, are the number of schools presently having vacancies for Principals. (NF)
