A 70-year-old man fell off the Maradana railway station platform and died of related injuries, the Coroner’s court was told this week. The victim, Riyanzie Stellsar, a security guard in Dematagoda, was rushed to the National Hospital Colombo and died the following morning.

His wife, Shanthi Stellsar, 50, told the Coroner’s court she had no suspicions regarding her husband’s death because her husband told her in hospital that at around 9.30 pm, while returning home after work, he had fallen off the platform and struck his head on the rail track.

No postmortem was conducted as the victim had given a statement to the police.Inquirer into Sudden Deaths, Ashraf Rumy held that death was due to damage to the skull caused by a fall.
