‘Sri Sanghamitta Sunday School’ at Thanthirimale Rajamaha Viharaya belonging to Mahawillachchiya Sasanarakshaka Bala Mandala conducts classes from Grades 1 to 10, and is situated in the remote Thanthrimale area.

The Chief Incumbent of the temple Ven. Thantirimale Chandrarathana Thera said that more than 375 students attend this school, and 12 voluntary teachers provide their invaluable service wholeheartedly.

Students there undergo severe hardships due to lack of proper facilities for their spiritual education.

The teachers spread mats and polythene sheets for want of chairs and tables, to engage in their educational activities.

While some students learn with the minimum of facilities at the spiritual education centre, others simply manage in the shade of trees.

Regrettably enough, during adverse weather conditions and days on which reliious programmes are held in the temple premises, Sunday School is cancelled for these programmes.

According to a teacher, Chandana Kumara Gajasingha, these poor children were able to achieve first place from among the Dhamma Schools in Thanthirimale, Kaluwala, Bogoda, Dematamalgama, Billewa, Ruwanpura, Medawachchieliya, Kosanmbawewa and Malmaduwa areas located in the Mahawillachchiya Sasanarakshaka Bala Mandalaya.

Furthermore, the Thera ventured to mention, if tables and chairs for the students and teachers, and a building with classrooms can be provided for this institute, it would indeed be a great meritorious deed.
