The Programme to Protect Public Resources (PPPR), the election monitoring arm of Transparency International (TI), has complained to the Elections Commissioner over the UPFA’s misuse of school buildings for its presidential election campaigns.

In a petition detailing four instances of misappropriation of school buildings in four provinces, TI had demanded the Election Commissioner to take immediate action against such misappropriation which, the petition stated, will most probably recur during the coming school holidays.
Four promotional campaigns had been held on November 30 alone.

The Mahamatya Maha Vidyalaya in Kirulapona had to play host to a UPFA party rally attended by more than 100 electoral members.

In the Polonnaruwa district, another rally for the members of the Civil Security Force was held at Ananda Balika Vidyalaya, Hingurakgoda.

Two other rallies held were at Iddamalgoda Vidyalaya, Eheliyagoda, presided by Power & Energy Minister, Pavithra Wanniarachchi, and at the Kotagala CLF College in Nuwara Eliya, attended by Minister Arumugam Thondaman. (YSY)
