Online payment for motor revenue licences in three provinces

Three more Provinces will make available online payment facilities for motor revenue licences within the next six months.

The programme which is supported through the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) under its E-services programme, will next be introduced in the Eastern, North-Western and Central Provinces.

The service also enables users to make payments through mobile cash, a new feature which was activated in the Southern Province as well. However, this feature is not available in the Western Province, which implemented the system only two years ago.

Hosted through Lanka Government Cloud Space, the implementation of the service will not cost the Provinces additional money.

Once the service is enabled users who want to make a payment at a Divisional Secretariat (DS) will have the option of going to any Secretariat in the Province to make the payment.

“Once implemented, the system will be centralised. The Province can also offer users the option of paying with their credit cards or mobile money, even at DS payment points”, Consultant in-charge of E-services – ICTA, Kamal Liyanage explained.

However, the availability of the service will depend on the decision of each Provincial Council.

He said that all payments made through the online system would be secure, and the end user would not be liable to any additional charges.
