Welcome to the Birds with Uncle Bird the Birdwatcher (5)
There was a loud noise in the garden where all the and demalichchas gathered into a corner greeting someone. With curiosity, Uncle Bird too walked slowly to check what this welcome party was.
Seeing Uncle Bird, a demalichcha who was shaking hands with a stocky bird shouted.
“Hi Mr. Bird, come here and see who is here. Our friend Auntie Avichchie is back.”
Still panting after the long flight, Avichchie gave a faint smile.
“Hey… you are back again.
We were all waiting for you”,
Uncle Bird said happily, patting the striped little head of Avichchie.
“It is more than six months since you departed from us. Where have you been? Haven’t you even remembered us?” asked a disheartened little Battichcha in a complaining voice.
“Hey, give the fellow a little time to catch her breath. Our Avichchie is constantly flying from northern areas of India. Can’t you see she is still panting ?” shouted Kawda who was providing security for all, from the menace cat.
“Avichchie will stay here for many months for you to have enough chit chats,” he said angrily while flying again to his security post.
“Avichchie was so exhausted last time that I had to help her,”
Uncle Bird recalled Auntie Avichchie’s arrival last year. She was panting vigorously and was so disoriented with exhaustion and couldn’t even walk properly. Uncle Bird had taken Auntie Avichchie and put her in a cardboard box with holes for better ventilation. Then he kept Auntie Avichchie in a peaceful dark corner of his room.
“Auntie Avichchie was so thirsty, that I gave her drops of glucose mixed water to get her revived again,” Mr. Bird recalled.
“Hey fellows.. Yeah, I remember how you helped me last time. I’ll be ok this time though and I’m happy to see you all again. Mr. Bird – have you seen any other colleagues of
mine?” asked Auntie Avichchie, still panting.
Yes – ‘Bigu’ the Blue-tailed Bee-eater and ‘Atu’ the Barn Swallow came here a few weeks ago. But ‘Hela Penda’ and ‘Shrike’ got late,”
Mr. Bird said, while giving some water to Avichchie.
“They might have gone on a little round trip then. I saw them departing,” said Avichchie while drinking all the water given to her thirstily.
Before Kawda came back again to warn the birds – they dispersed, after finding a shady and safer place for Avichchiya to rest.
