Punchi Theatre celebrates 11 years with two one-act plays

To celebrate the 11th birthday of the Punchi Theatre in Borella, two one-act plays “Golu Birinda” and “Heiyan Maruwa” will be staged on October 23 at 3.30 and 6.30 p.m. at the Punchi Theatre. On October 26, there will be a repeat performance of Nattukkari
“Golu Birinda” and “Heiyan Maruwa” are laughter-generating comedies. “Golu Birinda” is an adaptation of Anatole France’s “The Man Who Married a Dumb Wife” by Prof. Wimal Dissanayake. It’s based on a typical villager who has been carefully looking for a wife to spend a peaceful life with. Ultimately he decides to marry a dumb woman. In the course of his search, he confronts catastrophic hilarious incidents. The cast includes Malini Weeramuni, Daya Tennakoon, Senate Dikkumbura and Namel Weeramuni.

“Heiyan Maruwa” is written by well known writer, Somapala Gunadheera and directed by Namel Weeramuni . It’s a sequence of funny events of two teachers who mislead an Education Officer for a transfer from one school to another bringing out their make-believe difficulties that they have confronted with being at one school. Asanga Karunarathne, Tinu Perera, Anusha Dissanayake/Dilini Sandhya, Sachitra Imalka, Nuwandi Rodrigo and a host of children appear in this show.
