When cycling became the rage

With a history spanning over half a decade the Pedal Pushers’ Group has been pedaling their way towards bringing about change in the mind set of cycling, perceiving it not only as a sport but as a means to a healthy lifestyle, happiness and excitement. The brainchild of its founders Lalanthi Rajapakse and Dharshini Ariyaratne, this group has been going places and influencing the lives of young and old.

Colombo Cycle Fun Ride – which took place recently, was an event initiated three years ago with the intention of introducing cycling as a ‘green’ or eco-friendly sport in this country. Since its inception Colombo Cycle Fun Ride has become a diarised family event. With a route map etched through Colombo’s most prominent streets, this event gave four hundred plus cyclists, pedestrians, motorists and residents a chance to witness this fun filled event like no other.

Flagged off from CR & FC Grounds the cyclists completed their mapped out route via the Parliament grounds returning to the same venue. The venue then transformed in to a day of complete fun with the kids cycling event, the slowest rider and the blind folded cycling game of skill. A raffle draw saw participants winning a brand a new bicycle, a GoPro camera, outdoor accessories and gift vouchers from our sponsors.

This year’s event saw more participants with their bicycles and more food stalls. The event concluded with brunch at the club house and a live band that entertained all those who were present. (The writer was a particpant at the recently concluded Colombo Cycle Fun Ride)
