Coffee shops are fast gaining popularity among both young and old, as an ideal venue to catch up with friends or to hold a business meeting. Gloria Jean’s, down Union Place, is a world renowned coffee chain which started its operations in Sri Lanka, in February this year.

Today being Father’s Day, Gloria Jean’s will host a special ‘Father’s Day promotion’ where every kid who brings their father to the coffee shop will be eligible to flavour a coffee or a drink of their choice from any of the selections, free of charge.

The ‘Cappy Hour promotion’ meanwhile offers a 30% discount on selected hot or cold beverages on weekdays from 4.30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Managing Director Malar F&B Ltd., which is Gloria Jean’s Franchise in Sri Lanka, Dhusanthan Ravindran said. The objective of this promotion is to invite corporate clients to hold their business meetings at the venue. While Cappy Hour will be continued ‘Business of the Day promo’ will invite a corporate entity each week, where those who come to the coffee shop representing the invited corporate business establishment will get 35% off on food and drinks for an order of three or more people. Dhusanthan hopes this will prompt executives to hold their business meetings outside of their offices.

Gloria Jean’s also has a promotion for Standard Chartered card holders till June 31.

While there are arrangements to give out space in the Lounge area to hold children’s birthday parties or corporate parties, the MD says the Union Place branch is more of a corporate store whereas the two new branches to come up in Colombo 7 and Rajagiriya in a few months, are intended to be family stores.

“Starting a new branch involves getting down our design teams from Australia to plan out work,” Dhusanthan says adding that even all their coffee and beverage products come from a national supply chain in Australia.
