This week, the ancient temple at Thantirimale was illuminated for the 11th successive year
The Poson Aloka Pooja, which commenced on Poson Poya day, beautifully illuminated the temple, that had the devotees aglow with joy. The event was sponsored by Wijeya Newspapers Ltd.

Under the supervision of the Thantirimale Raja Maha Vihara Chief Incumbent Ven. Thantirimale Chandraratana Thera, the event commenced at 7 p.m. on June, 12 and continued till yesterday (14).

Over 20,000 bulbs lit the Chaithya, Sacred Bo tree, shrine room and surrounding areas of the temple.

With the objective of developing the temple and the villages around it, the event was inaugurated in 2004. Today the area has been developed with villagers who did not have a house, being given houses, following its commencement.

Meanwhile, students of Thantirimale Sri Sangamitta Dhamma School were giftted books and stationery on the second day of the event.Wijeya Newspaper Ltd Chairman, Ranjith Wijewardena, Gampaha District UNP Parliamentarian, Ruwan Wijewardena, Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation President, Wimal Rubasinghe and other distinguished persons participated in the event.
