Lanka Hospital death: Coroner’s ruling deferred

View(s):

The city coroner has deferred his ruling on the death of a private hospital employee because of a delay in the submission of reports by the Government Analyst and the hospital. Thirty-nine-year-old Administrative Secretary Thushari Upalani Gamage, a mother of two, died on May 26 when a gas cylinder fell on her while she was inspecting cylinders at Lanka Hospital, formerly Apollo.

Coroner Ashraff Rumi said he would determine the cause of the death only after he studies the Government’s Analyst’s report. The coroner was told on Tuesday that the report was not yet ready. The victim’s husband, Duminda Nishantha, and two administrative officers of the Lanka Hospital were present at the Coroner’s Court on Tuesday.

Hospital officials said their report on the death of Ms. Gamage would be ready soon. The coroner ordered them to submit their report before July 7.
