The qualifying tournament of the 23rd All-Island Schools Netball Championship which got underway on May 16 is in full swing which is being conducted in 15 centres around the country.

The centres that are being held are Ampara, Kandy, Matale, Anuradhapura, Kurunegala, Jaffna, Kalutara, Homagama, Ratnapura, Puttalam, Galle, Badulla, Matara, Gampaha and Colombo.

Two qualifying tournaments have been completed so far. They were held in the Kandy and Ratnapura districts. The Kandy tournament was held at St. Anthony’s Girls School ground in Katugastota while the Ratnapura tournament was held at the Public grounds in Ruwanwella.

Twenty three teams qualified in the Kandy district which comprised of four and two teams each from the Under-18 ‘A’ and ‘B’, Under-16 Division ‘A’ and ‘B’, Under-14 ‘A’ and ‘B’ and five teams in Under-13 age group.

Eighteen teams qualified in Ratnapura district which four each in the Under-18, Under-16 and Under-14 Division ‘A’ with one, two and three teams in the Under-18, Under-16 and Under-14 age groups qualifying in the Division ‘B’ category.

The 23rd All-Island Milo Schools Netball Championship conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Netball Association and sponsored by Nestle PLC will see over 400 teams being selected for the finals in the four age groups after the completion of the district tournament which is due to end on June 30.

The organisers have not decided the venue of the final. Yet in all probabilities it will be played in the southern district. Last year the final was held in Piliyandala where the girls from Holy Family Convent Kurunegala emerged overall champions for the sixth successive year.

Kandy District Qualifiers:

Under-13: Girls’ High School, Hillwood College, Mahamaya College, Sirimalwatte Navodya Vidyalaya and Kandy Model Girl’s School.
Under-14 Division ‘A’: Girls’ High School, Mahamaya College, Hillwood College and Pushpadana BV.

Under-16 Division ‘A’: Mahamaya College, Pushpadana BV, Hillwood College, Girl’s High School.

Under-18 Division ‘A’: Hillwood College, Girls’ High School, Swarnamali BV and Good Shepherd’s Convent.

Ratnapura District Qualifiers:

Under-14 Division ‘A’: Kegalle Central, Ananda Maithree Balangoda, Ferguson Girls’ High School Ratnapura and Pinnawala Central Rambukkana.
Under-14 Division ‘B’: Maniyangama Vidyalaya, Galigamuwa Central and Rathmalawinna Central.
Under-16 Division ‘A’: Ananda Maithree ‘B’ Balangoda, St. Joseph’s BV Kegalle, Ananda Maithree ‘A’ and Pinnawala Central Rambukkana.
Under-16 Division ‘B’: Rathmalawinna Central and Maniyangama Vidyalaya.
Under-18 Division ‘A’: Ananda Maithree Balangoda, Dharmaraja Central Hunuwala, Ferguson Girls’ High School Ratnapura and Dharmapala Vidyalaya Eheliyagoda.
Under-18 Division ‘B’: Galigamuwa Central.
