Closed door of no avail

A top meeting of a women’s sport took place behind closed doors recently. The ladies who took part in the meeting went to the extent of even closing the windows and drawing the curtains as well. The reason for this hush-hush meeting was that the press may come to know about the happenings of this sport which is currently being run by an interim committee. The strange thing is that even before the doors of this closed door meeting could open members of the press were well aware of everything that took place at this closed door meeting!

Kurunegala high and dry

Sports are being played very enthusiastically in Kurunegala. It was this very fact that egged the big wigs of a certain sport to ear-mark a leading ground for their purposes. However no action took place on this ground for quite some time and the urban authorities decided to return the cheque to the original owners. The bad part of this is that lovers of this popular sport who were hoping to see some foreign action are badly disappointed.

Crossing the great divide

The happenings at the Citadel are so mysterious these days. They say that there are three factions at work here and that one individual has been offered a handsome salary by a top official so that he will be forced to work on the side of this individual. This official has been put in charge of the women’s section. Earlier he was supposed to be on another official’s side but with the handsome salary that he is being offered now, it looks as if he will cross the great divide.

Kandy all the way

Kandy has been famous for rugby for several years and nobody was able to topple them from the pedestal for quite some time. Moves were made to bring another side to topple them but now this new club has run into trouble as they reportedly have no funds and have been faced with other problems with players shifting to greener pastures. All this augurs well for Kandy who has toiled over the years to be the top dogs of this sport.

Visa woes

The next world rugby congress is scheduled to be held in Laos and Sri Lanka’s representative has apparently not got his visa to attend the congress. The news however is that the representative is a newcomer (not to the sport or to previous administrations) but the present lot feels that he has some more time to attend such meetings and someone from the present body should attend this meeting.
