Three people were taken into custody yesterday, for the alleged pilferage of injections and medicine valves from the Cancer Hospital in Maharagama, police said.
They said the suspects were taken in from a safe house in Talangama, following a tip-off.

According to police, the suspects were minor employees at the hospital and had been contracted to dispose of used needles and medicine valves. Police found that, along with the disposed items, about 145 boxes packed with new medicine valves and injections were also smuggled out of the hospital.

Police believe that the racket had been going on for a considerable time, and did not rule out possible connections with errant hospital officials.
Talangama police who are conducting investigations are to question hospital employees during the course of this week. (LB)
