The visit of Professor Fazlidin Pulatov has boosted the sport of Sambo in Sri Lanka. His visit will culminate with the Sambo National Championships which is scheduled to take place on April 26 and 27.

This tournament will be divided in to sections – Sambo and Combat. In Sambo, wrestlers ,judokas and aikido players are eligible to participate in Sport Sambo. Martial artists seeking to participate in contests should have a basic knowledge of break falls and a few throws which will be taught at the at the Colombo YMCA free of charge from February this year after 6 pm.

In Combat Sambo judokas, wrestlers, karatekas, boxers, taekwondo, wushu or any other martial arts style players are eligible to participate. All participants will be provided with sambo uniforms, head gear, gloves, boots etc. for the duration of the tournament. For those who require lessons in break falls and a few throws, they are requested to visit the Colombo YMCA on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6pm onwards.

A coaching camp and a seminar will take place in Colombo before the national championship by referees and coaches of the Asian Sambo Federation. This tournament will be officiated by Asian Sambo referees. For further details contact e-mail: sambofederationsrilanka@gmail.com
