Akarsha to heal the wounds of war
View(s):‘Akarsha’, a romantic tale which gives a message to heal the wounds of a three decade long Sri Lankan war is the latest cinematic direction of Suneth Malinga Lokuhewa who shot to fame with his earlier direction ‘Sinhawalokanaya’. Set in the backdrop of a war the film portrays a love affair between a beautiful Tamil music teacher and a Sinhala army officer.

Puja Umashankar
The role of the Tamil teacher is played by South and North Indian actress Puja Umashankar who has become equally famous in Sri Lanka with her numerous roles in the local cinema productions. However ‘Akarsha’ will be a juncture in Puja’s film career as it will the first Sinhala film where her original voice will be used for a local film. Interestingly the role of the army officer is being played by Yasas Ratnayake, one of the sons of Army Commander Saya Ratnayake.
Among the other stars participating are Maulee Mathisha, Sriyani Amerasena, Dushyantha Weeraman, W. Jayasiri, Douglas Ranasinghe, Dharshan Dharmaraj, Anandika Kumarasinghe, Charith Abeysinghe, Nadaraja Sivam, Jayalal Rohana, Nalin Pradeep Uduwela, Ramani Siriwardena and many more. The screenplay of ‘Akarsha’ is written by Saman Weeraman and is produced by Prabath Chaminda Perera, Harish Uddika Mahadiwulwewa, Nalin Nishantha Dharmapriya and Leel Prasanna Dissanayake for ‘Akarsha’ film productions.
Prabath Rohana handles the camera, and Shan Alwis edited it. Ajith Hathwella the art direction, Tharaka Adhikari the make up, Dharshana Ruwan Dissanayake the music and media coordinator is Anton J. Fernando.
