The EDEX Expo education exhibition this year includes a new section called the Job Fair. This section comprises more than 40 stalls of 25 leading companies in Sri Lanka. Those who are willing to begin their career in any of the leading firms in Sri Lanka could enroll in those companies.

Also the Job Fair gives the opportunity for the visitors to fill out their Curriculum Vitae and obtain on-the-spot-job opportunities.
The three day exhibition was declared open to the public and school children by Minister for Scientific Affairs Tissa Vitharana and Internatinal Labour Office (ILO) Country Director, Donglin Li, on Friday. Today is the final day of the exhibition at the BMICH.
Mr. Donglin Li in his address said, “Achieving decent work for young men and women is a challenge shared by all countries across the world these days. As per the ILO Global Employment Trends report, more than 200 million people are unemployed worldwide, including nearly 80 million youth. The global youth unemployment rate stood at 12.6% in 2010. On average, young men and women are two to three times more likely to be unemployed than adults.”

He said in Sri Lanka there has been a significant improvement in the economy with fast growth and development. Likewise, progress in Sri Lanka is also reflected in the unemployment rate, which fell to 4.9 per cent in 2010 and further to 3.9 per cent in 2012. However, unemployment among young Sri Lankans between 15 to 24 years continues to be much higher at 20 per cent, most notably for young women (27.8 per cent. One of the biggest challenges in Sri Lanka like many other countries is ensuring that young people can make the transition from education to the workforce through skills match and employment services, he noted.
