Orient Hotel wins EU SWITCH – Asia Greening Award

Orient Hotel, Bandarawela is been adjudged the Energy Conservation Champion in the 50 room category at the EU SWITCH – Asia Greening Hotels awards – 2013 . Greening Sri Lankan Hotels is a European Union funded initiative under the Switch-Asia Programme, in association with The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, which encourages and aids in the implementation and enhancement of conservation through improvement of energy, water and waste management systems.

‘It is a great honour for us to have been chosen for this prestigious award especially since we joined the EU SWITCH program just over a year ago and this recognition of our endeavors in the areas of conservation and sustainability within this short period of time underscores our commitment to eco-friendly and sustainable tourism. We have always been conscious of the environmental impact and work hard to minimize and indeed obviate any negative effects on the planet’ said Rawatha Hettyarachi, the Direcetor General Manager of the Orient Hotel. 

‘This award is an endorsement of our efforts in this area and is a tremendous encouragement to us and will spur us onto further efforts to reduce our carbon footprint by minimizing our water and energy consumption and waste generation’ he added.

Orient Hotel is led by Rohan Perera a Chartered Accountant by profession and continues on the legacy left behind by founder the late Fred Perera.
