Sydney-based Sri Lankan playwright and director Dhananjaya Karunarathne will conduct a three-day theatre workshop for beginners in Colombo in December this year.

The purpose of the workshop is to introduce a good foundation for newcomers to theatre. Students will be guided through the three-day course, with further student-driven learning to continue after the workshop with a specifically designed self-study process. Directing, play writing, acting, design, backstage work and theatre theory will be covered through practical and theoretical processes using visual devices.

The workshop will be held in Colombo in December this year on a selected weekend from Friday to Sunday from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. Applicants must be between 18-35 years and will have to face a selection process.

The conductor Dhananjaya Karunarathne is a published playwright, director and designer working in Sri Lanka and Australia as an independent artiste. A collection of his short plays titled ‘Sihina Rangala’ (Theatre of Dreams) became very popular in Sri Lanka and some of its plays were translated to English.

The workshop is presented by Sydney-Colombo Theatre Project. Applicants must send a self-addressed stamped envelope titled ‘Three-day theatre workshop’ to 60A/3A, 9th Lane, Athul Kotte before November 15. For more information contact – 0718 480994 or 0777 350228.
