Lawyers to Delhi world cup
View(s):The Sri Lanka Lawyers’ Cricket team will leave for Delhi, India on Friday to take part at the 4th Lawyers’ Cricket World Cup from October 12 to 22.
The Sri Lanka Lawyers’ team who became runners-up in the third installation of the Lawyers’ Cricket World Cup held in Barbados in 2011 is captained by Asela Patabendi at the fourth edition of Lawyers’ World Cup. He has played in all three previous World Cup events. Manesh Wevita, who is also playing in his fourth World Cup, is the vice captain of the team.

The Sri Lanka Lawyers’ team is currently playing in the Division III tournament conducted by the Colombo District Cricket Association in 2013 which is a competition held under the guidance of Sri Lanka Cricket. They qualified for the semi-finals of the tournament which is scheduled to be played in early November. The Lawyers’ team mainly comprises of private practitioners with representation from the state sector as well as the corporate sector.
The previous Lawyers’ World Cups were held in Hyderabad, India in 2007, Cambridge, England in 2009, and Barbados in 2011. The Lawyers’ cricket teams representing India, Sri Lanka, Australia, Pakistan, England and West Indies are participating in the World Cup in Delhi. The competition is expected to be one of the greatest ever cricketing events in the world of legal professionals and judges.
